Type of Dental Fillings
The advances of modern dentistry are many, but we have yet to find a way of reversing the ravages of tooth decay. Once cavities have been detected in a tooth, the only way to stop its progression is to remove the decay and replace it with a filling material.
At his 4th Avenue Dental Clinic, in Kitsilano, Vancouver, Dr. Nishant uses the following types of fillings:
- Composite resins
This filling material is a tooth colored plastic mixture filled with glass. It can be matched to the shade of the tooth, making it esthetically pleasing. Composite is placed in layers, each layer being hardened by means of a curing light. - Inlays
These types of fillings are made up of gold or porcelain and require two visits. An impression is taken of the tooth after the decay is removed and the tooth prepared. A technician fabricates the filling in gold or porcelain and the inlay is cemented in during your second visit.
All filling materials have advantages and disadvantages. After a complete examination of your mouth, at 4th Avenue Dental, we will be able to recommend the filling best suited to your needs.
